PRESENTATION

The Alpine Space is an area characterized by small and medium-sized cities, which represent the territorial heritage of this area for its rich natural resources, the quality of the landscape and the importance of history, but also a weakness for economic development because of their isolation, depopulation and the difficulty of communications and supply.

CAPACities project, based on a three-year plan (January 2008-March 2011) aims at exploiting the potential of small alpine towns through a transnational approach, integrating environment, culture and tourism in the territorial development strategies.

OBJECTIVES

• To promote actions and innovative tools in urban and territorial plans;
• To enhance and promote small city in a global context in a lasting way;
• To strengthen relations between towns of the Alpine Space to improve the attractiveness;
• To adopt strategic plans and integrated local actions to improve the quality of life and competitiveness of Alpine centres;
• Implement projects for the exploitation of mountain resources for cultural activities, environment, landscape, tourism and local economic activities.

PARTNERSHIP

Ten project partners are local authorities, foundations, public and private research centres from four Member States (Austria, France, Italy, Slovenia) and Switzerland. The Italian partners are: the Lombardy Region, the autonomous region of Valle d'Aosta, Piedmont Region and the Local Development Agency LAMORO

PILOT PROJECT

LAMORO will support new business ideas to create new job opportunities for women and to exploit local resources.

LAMORO will identify feminine skills in the traditional field of work and in emerging sectors; in the meantime will be discovered the areas where it is possible and reasonable to invest.
Finally LAMORO will support projects and innovative ideas through the promotion of regional networks and partnerships.
