BACKGROUND
Demographic change is one of the new global issues that EU countries and regions are facing. Rural areas are particularly affected by this phenomenon, facing problems such as declining population, ageing population and emigration of young people.
Starting from a thorough analysis of the socio-economic situation of rural areas, the project European Rural Futures - EURUFU (May 2011 - April 2014), co-funded by the Central Europe Programme 2007-2013, aims to strengthen economic competitiveness and social attractiveness of rural areas by offering innovative solutions for Central Europe regions. EURUFU specifically focuses on four main areas:
- social and health care;
- education;
- local economy;
- job opportunities and mobility.
OBJECTIVES
The project aims to:
- Support a balanced economic growth in order to reduce regional disparities;
- Develop new standards for the provision of public services in areas affected by demographic change;
- Develop transnational strategies to attract residents, businesses and investments thanks to the creation of regional networks.
