LaMoRo hosted the kick off meeting of the EU-Project CROSSCULTURE
European projects
04/02/2009
On 23rd and 24th January 2009, members of TRANSROMANICA and partners of the new EU-project CrossCulTour came together in Piedmont to celebrate the membership of the Italian region in the network of Romanesque routes and to start the cooperation for the CrossCulTour-project. The network of Romanesque Routes of European heritage called TRANSROMANICA is now partner within the EU-Project CrossCulTour which intends to illustrate the vast diversity of cultural heritage. Started officially in December 2008, the kick-off conference for CrossCulTour was held in the town of Asti, Italy, on 23rd January 2009. Partners from Italy, Slovenia, Austria and Germany were present. Within CrossCulTour, partners want to strengthen cooperation among and with other cultural eras, pilgrimage routes and cultural institutions. Therefore, several activities are planned: events and exhibitions, a summer school for students from all over Europe, training for youth and volunteers, a transnational cycle track, a map- and sign-system for visualization of the European route and touristic guidance through audio-systems. Led by the Ministry of Regional Development and Transport of Saxony-Anhalt, the project runs from December 2008 til November 2011 and has a financial volume of 2.3 Mio , co-funded by the European Union. Another reason to celebrate was the acceptance of the region of Piedmont as a member of TRANSROMANICA. TRANSROMANICA is a Major European Cultural Route recognised by the Council of Europe, connecting the Romanesque art and architecture in seven countries. Members from Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Serbia, France and Spain came together on 24th January 2009 in the Abbey of Vezzolano to welcome the Romanesque heritage sites of Piedmont to the network. One of the Romanesque highlights in Piedmont is the Saint Michael s Abbey which was founded in the 10th century and was considered as a spiritual centre and a great crossroad for cultural exchanges. Strenghtening cultural exchange and partnerships will be the aim for the next three years of realization of the project.
