II Transnational Meeting Central Europe Programme: Rubires , rural biological resources

Structural changes in agriculture and the growing demand for renewable resources for energy production are one of the biggest challenges of the enlarged European Community. The further tasks are to improve energy efficiency in the use of renewable energy and improve the coordination of land use management.
It is within this theme that the Local Development Agency “Langhe Monferrato Roero” organized Friday 25th September 2009 in Asti at the Chamber of Commerce n.8 Piazza Medici, from 10.00 to 13.00, the second transnational meeting of the European project 'RUBIRES- rural biological resources'.
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss and debate on the use of tools for the management and dissemination of renewable energy in Piedmont. The participants evaluated all opportunities for energy valorisation in our region and discuss methods of development.
The meeting was opened by Elsa Rissone, representative of the Chamber of Commerce of Asti, and moderated by the Consortium Langhe Monferrato Roero. The conclusions were handled by Umberto Fava, Director of the Local Development Agency LAMORO.
The Province of Asti with the Councillor for the Environment Pier Franco Ferraris and the Environment Sector representative Ing. Franco Brigonolo, attended the meeting and discussed policies and plans for the development of renewable energy in Asti area and presented the guidelines set up by the Province with regard to ligneous biomass management.
Energy from the vineyards and land management was the issue treated by Giuseppe Tresso, representative of IPLA, Institute for the timber plants and the environment.
Following a presentation by Simona Menardo, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Turin, has been done and Ms Menardo spoke about methods and results of the European project funded by the Fourth Framework Programme EU-Agro Biogas.
Obviously the project partners from Germany, Slovenia, Hungary and Austria (for a total of 30 people) representing the regional authorities and development agencies attended the meeting too.
It was due at the end of the meeting also a time of discussion where the issues discussed during the morning have been compared with the geographical experience of foreign partners.
The meeting represented the chance to discuss renewable energies topic and find out biomass potentials in Italy and in Piedmont Region. It has been the way to find new solutions and compare different countries legal binding frameworks.
